Best Rooftop Destination Wedding Venues in the Dominican Republic

The east coast of the Dominican Republic is flat. That’s good for beaches and unhelpful for views, which is why the resorts here went upward: nine properties have built wedding venues on their roofs, and from three or four floors up the coastline finally opens out in a way it never does at sea level.

These are the rarest venues in the country, and almost all of them are small, holding between 35 and 200 guests. That scale is the point rather than a limitation. A rooftop suits the parts of a wedding where the view is the decoration and the group is close: a cocktail hour, a welcome party, an intimate ceremony.

Below are six, across Cap Cana and the Punta Cana coast. Our Certified Destination Wedding Specialists can confirm wind policies and exclusivity for your destination wedding.

Best Rooftop Destination Wedding Venues at Top Dominican Republic Resorts

Six resorts with elevated wedding space, from 35 guests up to 200.

1. Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana

Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana has the largest rooftop wedding venue in the country, a Rooftop Terrace licensed for 200 guests.

Two hundred on a roof is genuinely unusual, since most elevated venues cap at a hundred or fewer. It means a rooftop here can host the ceremony and the reception rather than just the cocktail hour. The resort is family-friendly in gated Cap Cana, with a 2,000-guest lawn, an 800-guest beach and a 2,070-guest ballroom if the celebration outgrows the roof.

2. Dreams Cap Cana Resort & Spa

Dreams Cap Cana Resort & Spa runs a Sky Terrace for 150 guests, the second-largest elevated venue here.

What makes this property work for a rooftop wedding is the sequence available around it. A ceremony on the beach for 200, cocktails on the Sky Terrace, then dinner at the Mesa restaurant venue for 200 or on its terrace for 120 gives you four distinct settings in one evening without leaving the grounds. The Infinity Pool Deck adds another 80.

3. Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana

Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana is the adults-only half of the Cap Cana Hyatt complex, with its own Rooftop Terrace for 100.

A hundred guests on an adults-only roof is about as close to a private evening as a large resort gets. The pairing with the Ziva side next door is the practical advantage: the wedding party can stay here while families with children stay there, and both have rooftop space of their own. Their beach below holds 800.

4. Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana

Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana has a Seaside Sky Terrace for 100, set on the quieter Macao stretch north of the main Bavaro strip.

Macao is one of the more dramatic beaches on this coast, less built up than Bavaro and with real surf, and seeing it from height is the argument for this venue. The resort also carries a 700-guest ballroom, a 350-guest beach and two 250-guest garden terraces, so a rooftop ceremony has substantial options behind it.

5. Lopesan Costa Bavaro Resort, Spa & Casino

Lopesan Costa Bavaro Resort, Spa & Casino has a Rooftop Terrace for 99 guests, on the main Bavaro coast.

It’s one of the newest large wedding resorts on this stretch, which generally means the event spaces were designed with current expectations around power, lighting, and sound rather than retrofitted into an older building. For a rooftop specifically, that matters, since running a reception several floors up depends entirely on what was built in.

6. Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa

Breathless Punta Cana Resort & Spa has a Sky Bar seating 35, the smallest and most intimate rooftop venue in the country.

A sky bar is a different proposition from a terrace with chairs put out on it. The bar is already built, the lighting is designed, and the space works in the evening with nothing brought in. Thirty-five guests make it an elopement or a close-family ceremony, or the welcome party for a larger wedding happening elsewhere on the property.

More Information for Planning Your Rooftop Destination Wedding in the Dominican Republic

Elevated venues come with their own set of questions. Here’s what our Certified Destination Wedding Specialists ask on your behalf.

Rooftop Destination Wedding Venues Appeal

The view is the reason, and on a coastline this flat, it’s a view you genuinely cannot get at ground level. From the beach, you see the water in front of you. From four floors up, you see the reef line, the curve of the bay, and sky in every direction.

Privacy is the second, and it’s underrated. Beaches in the Dominican Republic are public, and a garden usually sits within sight of a walkway. A roof is reached by one lift, which means nobody wanders through your ceremony. For a small, close wedding that’s hard to replicate downstairs.

Three practical questions. Wind strengthens with height on an exposed coast, so ask what the policy is and at what point a ceremony gets moved. Check lift access if any guests have mobility needs, since a rooftop reached only by stairs excludes people. And confirm what time amplified music has to stop, because sound travels much further from a roof and these venues sit above guest rooms.

Dominican Republic Destination Wedding Cost

The average couple marrying in the Dominican Republic spends around $8,959 all in, with most landing between $7,000 and $11,000. That covers the wedding package, accommodations, airfare, and add-ons. Rooms average roughly $350 per person per night over a typical four-night stay, with airfare of $300 to $700 per person. Couples here average 38 guests.

These averages reflect real spend data from couples who booked their destination wedding with our Certified Destination Wedding Specialists.

Rooftops often carry a premium because they’re small, in demand, and sometimes attached to a bar that generates revenue otherwise. The cost that catches people out is logistics rather than the venue fee: everything for a rooftop reception has to go up and come back down, and some resorts price that service separately.

Dominican Republic Destination Wedding Packages

Resorts here offer complimentary and deposit-only wedding packages with a qualifying room block, running roughly $800 to $3,000 at entry tier, $3,500 to $5,000 mid-tier, and $5,500 to $14,000 and beyond for full productions.

Signature spaces like these are often carved out of the base package as an upgrade. Ask whether the rooftop is included or priced separately before settling on the resort, and whether it’s available for a ceremony or only for a cocktail hour, since several of these are licensed for one and not the other.

Dominican Republic Destination Wedding Travel Information

All six of these wedding resorts are served by Punta Cana International, with Cap Cana 20 to 30 minutes away and the Bávaro and Macao properties 20 to 40 minutes in the other direction.

Season matters more for a rooftop than for most venues, since these spaces have no cover and limited fallback within the venue itself. December through April is the safer window. If you want a rooftop outside those months, agree in advance which covered space becomes the alternative and by what hour the call gets made.

Dominican Republic Rooftop Destination Wedding Venue FAQs

Which Dominican Republic resorts have rooftop wedding venues?

Nine do. The largest are at Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana at 200 guests, Dreams Cap Cana at 150, and Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana and Dreams Macao Beach Punta Cana at 100 each. The smallest is the 35-guest Sky Bar at Breathless Punta Cana.

How many guests fit in a rooftop wedding venue here?

Between 35 and 200, depending on the resort. Most hold 100 or fewer, so couples typically use the rooftop for the ceremony or cocktail hour and move to a beach, garden, or ballroom at the same property for the reception.

Is wind a problem for rooftop ceremonies?

It can be, since this is an exposed coast and wind strengthens with height. Ask the resort what its policy is, at what point a ceremony gets relocated, and which covered space serves as the alternative. Late afternoon is usually calmer than the middle of the day.
