Best Beach Destination Wedding Venues in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic has a coastline on two different seas, and the beaches behave accordingly. The north faces the Atlantic, where the water has movement, and the mountains come down close behind the sand. The south and east face the Caribbean, calmer and shallower, with the long, pale shelf people picture when they picture this island.

Neither is better, and the choice between them is really a choice about what the photographs should look like and what your guests will want to do with the water. More than a hundred beach wedding venues sit across the country, and the capacities run from 100 guests to 800.

Below are eight resorts spanning Cap Cana, Puerto Plata, Miches, La Romana, Samana and Punta Cana. Our Certified Destination Wedding Specialists can tell you how each one stages and screens its ceremony area for your destination wedding.

Secrets Cap Cana Preferred Beach wedding venue

Best Beach Destination Wedding Venues at Top Dominican Republic Resorts

Eight wedding resorts across six areas of the country, with beach capacity from 150 guests to 800.

1. Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana

Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana beach wedding

Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana has one of the two largest beach venues in the country at 800 guests, on the family-friendly side of the Cap Cana Hyatt complex.

Cap Cana is a gated development, and the difference in how the beaches feel compared with the Bavaro strip further north is immediate. Fewer vendors, fewer day visitors, more space. With the Larimar Lawn at 2,000 and a 2,070-guest ballroom behind it, this is also the rare property where a very large beach ceremony has somewhere equally large to go if the weather turns.

2. Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana

Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana is the adults-only half of the same complex, with its own 800-guest beach.

An 800-guest adults-only beach is unusual anywhere in the Caribbean. The useful part of the pairing is that a guest list can split by preference rather than compromise: couples and friends here, families with children next door, everyone on the same sand for the ceremony. The Santo Domingo Terrace takes 200 and a Rooftop Terrace 100.

3. Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada

Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada is the north coast option, with two separate beach venues at 400 and 250 guests plus a 250-guest Beach Gazebo.

Puerto Plata looks different from the rest of the country, and that’s the reason to go. The Cordillera Septentrional rises directly behind the coast, so your ceremony has mountains in the background rather than flat scrub or hotel blocks. The Atlantic here has more movement than the Caribbean side, which guests who want to swim should know and photographers tend to love.

4. Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa

Secrets Cap Cana Juanillo Beach wedding venue

Secrets Cap Cana Resort & Spa has two beach venues, Juanillo at 350 guests and Preferred Beach at 200, at an adults-only property.

Juanillo is among the most photographed beaches in the country for good reason: wide, pale, calm, with a long shallow shelf that makes it genuinely pleasant to swim rather than just to look at. Having a second, smaller beach on the same property is useful for a welcome party or a rehearsal dinner that shouldn’t take over the main venue.

5. Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa

Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort and Spa

Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa has a 350-guest beach in Miches on the northeast coast.

Miches is the quietest developed stretch of coastline in the country and the newest, which means the beach still reads as a beach rather than a resort frontage. Green hills run behind it. For couples who looked at Punta Cana photographs and found them a bit uniform, this is the alternative that solves it without leaving the east of the island.

6. Dreams Dominicus La Romana Resort & Spa

Dreams Dominicus La Romana Resort & Spa takes 250 on the beach and 200 at a Beach Gazebo, with a pier for 120 running out over the water.

La Romana sits on the calm southern coast where the water is shallow and protected, which makes it the easiest of these beaches for guests with small children or anyone nervous about swell. The pier is the distinguishing feature: a ceremony out over the water with the resort behind you is something none of the beach-only properties can offer.

7. Viva V Samana by Wyndham, A Trademark Adults All Inclusive

The Beach

Viva V Samana by Wyndham is the only wedding resort on the Samana peninsula, adults-only, with a 150-guest beach and two garden venues at 150.

Samana is the most dramatic coastline in the country, green and steep, and it’s where humpback whales calve between January and March. A destination wedding here is a different proposition from the east coast entirely: smaller, quieter, further from everything, and genuinely distinctive. For a guest list of 100 or fewer that wants somewhere few people have been, it’s the pick.

8. Live Aqua Beach Resort Punta Cana

Live Aqua Beach Resort Punta Cana has Aqua Beach, taking up to 800 guests, which ties it with the two Cap Cana Hyatts for the largest beach venue in the country.

It’s the only five-star adults-only property on this list, which makes an 800-guest adults-only beach genuinely unusual. The Seishin Terrace adds up to 300 for a reception off the sand. Bavaro is also the easiest coast for guests to reach, with the widest choice of direct flights into Punta Cana International and the shortest transfers.

More Information for Planning Your Beach Destination Wedding in the Dominican Republic

Beaches here vary more than couples expect. Here’s what our Certified Destination Wedding Specialists raise.

Beach Destination Wedding Venues Appeal

Choice is the real advantage. Most Caribbean destinations give you one coastline and one look. This country gives you an Atlantic north with mountains behind it, a calm Caribbean south, an undeveloped northeast, and a gated, manicured southeast, all within a few hours of each other and all with resorts set up for weddings.

Scale follows. Two beaches here hold 800 guests, several more take 250 to 400, and a 150-guest beach counts as intimate. Very few destinations can seat several hundred people on sand at all.

Three things to ask. Beaches in the Dominican Republic are public, so find out how the resort screens and stages the ceremony area and whether more than one wedding runs that day. Ask about seaweed, which varies by coast and by season and which the better resorts manage actively. And check what time amplified music has to stop, since sound carries a long way over open water.

Dominican Republic Destination Wedding Cost

The average couple marrying in the Dominican Republic spends around $8,959 all in, with most landing between $7,000 and $11,000. That covers the wedding package, accommodations, airfare, and add-ons. Rooms average roughly $350 per person per night over a typical four-night stay, and airfare runs $300 to $700 per person. Couples here average 38 guests.

These averages reflect real spend data from couples who booked their destination wedding with our Certified Destination Wedding Specialists.

Beach ceremonies sit at the lower end, since the setting is already there and most base packages assume one. The costs that do appear are setup on sand, amplification against the surf, and lighting if the reception runs past dark.

Dominican Republic Destination Wedding Packages

Resorts here offer complimentary and deposit-only wedding packages with a qualifying room block, running roughly $800 to $3,000 at entry tier, $3,500 to $5,000 mid-tier, and $5,500 to $14,000 and beyond for full productions.

Entry tiers are built around exactly this: a beach ceremony with an officiant, basic decor, a cake and a toast. Where couples add cost is a private reception and upgraded florals, so check what the base package covers on the sand before deciding you need to move up.

Dominican Republic Destination Wedding Travel Information

Punta Cana International has the most direct flights, but it isn’t the right airport for every resort here. Puerto Plata, La Romana, Samana, and Santo Domingo all have their own, and for the north, south, and peninsula resorts, they save hours of road time.

Cap Cana is 20 to 30 minutes from Punta Cana International, Miches around two hours, and La Romana half an hour from its own airport. Tell guests which to book before invitations go out. December through April is the driest stretch, and on the Samana Peninsula, January to March also brings the humpback whales.

Dominican Republic Beach Destination Wedding Venue FAQs

What is the largest beach wedding venue in the Dominican Republic?

Three beaches tie at 800 guests: Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana, Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana, and Aqua Beach at Live Aqua Beach Resort Punta Cana. Iberostar Waves Costa Dorada in Puerto Plata has a 400-guest beach, and both Secrets Cap Cana and Dreams Playa Esmeralda take 350.

Are the beaches in the Dominican Republic private?

Beaches here are public, so no resort beach is fully private. What resorts do is screen and stage the ceremony area so it reads as yours. Ask specifically how they manage it and whether another wedding is booked that day.

Which coast has the calmest water?

The south and east, facing the Caribbean, where the water is shallower and more protected. The north coast at Puerto Plata faces the Atlantic and has more movement, which looks dramatic in photographs and matters if guests plan to swim.
