The (brief) story of how you met/fell in love:
Mark and I knew each other in high school and never dated, but we always had a connection. We lost touch after moving to college and eventually traveling the country for work. We were living 20 hours apart but happened to be back in our hometown in November 2010 for two separate weddings. After no contact for five years, we decided to meet up and have dinner. We continued to travel but have been inseparable ever since! Best dinner we have ever had!
The destination wedding decision: something you’ve always wanted or came to love?
We have both wanted a wedding a little different. We knew a destination wedding would fit our personality perfectly.
What made you choose your resort/destination?
We fell in love with the Sugar Mill Ruins offered at Caneel Bay Resort. We wanted an intimate setting in a unique place. We love to travel and that sense of adventure was reflected in our choice of St. John.
How did you personalize your wedding and ceremony?
We gave our guests practical and personalized beach gear and encouraged them to explore the island. We wanted everyone to enjoy themselves.
The most memorable moment was when….
Before our wedding pictures were taken we both were in separate rooms to make the “first look” special. We had all of the guests making sure that we didn’t see each other all day in passing… Just before I walked out to go meet Mark, every donkey on the resort was surrounding my room as if they were going to help escort me to my groom.
Three words that sum up your destination wedding experience are:
BEST WEDDING EVER!
Besides the wedding itself, what was your favorite part of your trip? Did you do any activities with your guests?
We had a Friday night wedding so we spent the next day with our guests. We were wedding jitter-free and totally relaxed. We snorkeled and laughed and talked about our favorite wedding and reception moments from the night before.
If you could travel anywhere for your one-year anniversary, it would be?
Back to St. John! So much to do and definitely the most beautiful, relaxing place I have ever been!
Your biggest piece of advice to couples planning a destination wedding would be:
Find a resort with a good on-site wedding coordinator! This made all the difference! In addition to my Specialist, I had the greatest, most helpful on-site wedding coordinator that made the day of my ceremony so stress-free.
