Sonia & Michael’s Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Mexico

It all started with a rainy day in Brooklyn for these two lovebirds! After Michael offered his umbrella to Sonia back in 2019, they exchanged numbers and have been inseparable ever since.

Sonia always knew she wanted to have a destination wedding, and after trying to plan their special day in New York, they quickly realized that a destination wedding was the best option to start their happily ever after.

Sonia said, “Once we realized that we could have the style of wedding that we were looking for at an amazing price point and enjoy our family and friends for an extended period of time, it was a no-brainer for us.”

When deciding on their dream location to say their I dos, they envisioned a venue that felt like a fairytale, and Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa offered exactly that! With a stunning staircase and the tropical florals, they knew they made the right decision.

Family played a huge part in making their wedding day nothing short of magical, and there were plenty of touching moments with their loved ones that made their celebration in paradise unforgettable.

During their reception, they added an audio voiceover of Michael’s deceased cousin, who would have been part of his wedding party, to be played as one of the speeches. “It was a very emotional moment, but also memorable,” Sonia recalls.

Another special moment that lit up the venue was when Sonia’s dad handed her off to their 9-year-old son, who proceeded to walk her down the aisle and give her away. Their son gave a stamp of approval not only to their wedding in paradise, but also to their marriage certificate too!

With all the touching moments with their family and friends during their reception, Sonia and Michael will never forget their hilarious attempts at feeding each other their wedding cake! Intertwining their arms was difficult enough, but after a few laughs, they fed each other the best they could.

When looking back at their celebration in Mexico, they describe it as “modern, minimalist, and memorable.” And it wouldn’t have been possible without all the guidance and support they received along the way!
