Hi, it's Hannah and Carlos again, revealing all our wedding stories, or at least I am revealing them. I'm going to tell you why we really picked a Destination Wedding. When we were in Argentina, already engaged, we had the idea to have our wedding there. We went for a drive into los Andes and passed by Villicencia, a very old spring resort that was supposed to be opening in a couple years, but in Argentina that could be about 5 years. There was a small but beautiful church along side and we figured we could have his family stay and my family could fly out and stay. The most expensive thing would be their ticket and the exchange rate $3 pesos to $1 American dollar would work great for the budget of the wedding because of course our guest will be buying their own ticket.
We didn't put much thought into it, as you really have to be Catholic to get married in Mendoza, Argentina. I am not and Carlos was only baptized, so that meant that we would have to go there and go through this big ordeal. I don't want to sound like a bad person or make Carlos seem like one either, but we don't go to church, not that we haven't ever been in one. It just seems like a weird idea to get married in a church when it's not our style. So we decided we could find someone to marry us where we pick to go. When we arrived home, my mother was not fond of the idea at all. She insisted that we get married in St. Louis, and I said, I don't want to get married in St. Louis, I want to do something different and anyway isn't it my wedding? She straight up told me that her and my step father didn't want to fly to Argentina to attend the wedding because of the cost, but if we would marry in St. Louis, they would pay for it. I was furious, what a hypocrite! Now you can understand that we wanted to elope with a Destination Wedding in the first place.
