Meet our first Destination Wedding bride guest blogger Jacqueline.  She will be taking you through the planning of her Mexico wedding.

My name is Jacquelyn and I am very excited to be planning a Destination Wedding. It began a little over fours ago. My finance and I started dating on the night that a bunch of us went for my birthday.  But honestly it started a long time ago.  My finance and I went to the same elementary school together and we were in the same second grade class.  Yes he was my first crush.  My sister and I had to walk to CCD every Tuesday and I would make her walk the long way there so that we could go by his house. But you know how second grade crushes go not far.  It's you like them for a little while and then forget about it.  Also he ended up moving to a new house in town which meant that he switched schools too.  But that was not the last of it.

We ended up going to the same Jr. High School too.  But being as shy as I was I never talked to him.  Then during college we dated for awhile but the timing wasn't right,  but we stayed friends.  And then one day we finally got together.  It was like a dream come true.  So we dated for four years and then last year on Mother's day he asked me to marry him.

He got up early that day and went to get breakfast for us and when he came home he had the boys give me a dozen red roses and a big heart balloon that said Happy Mother's Day, and then he told me that there was something for me in the kitchen, so I went in to find a small box wrapped in gold paper with a big ribbon.  I was so excited I could hardly breathe.  I took the box to the other room and opened it, as I was about to open the box he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.  He was shaking so bad and he was sweating.  I said you shouldn't have been nervous because you knew that I would say yes.  He then went on to tell me that if I wasn't so picky on what type of ring I wanted that I would have gotten it much sooner.

See I wanted a ring that was totally different from everyone else's and that's just what my ring is. I am glad he waited. He also said that if my dad wasn't such a hard person to track down he would have asked me sooner too.  He made sure to ask everyone close to me if he could marry me.  My mom was the first person he asked.  It was hard for my family to keep such a big secret.  But they did great.  I was very surprised and very excited.  So now we are in the process of planning our destination wedding.

Hi Cindy,

You can also check out the first post by Annmarie...or "Cerveza Por Favor" as she goes by on her blog. She is going to the same area next spring. Good luck with your planning!

I was proposed to Feb. 14th, 2008. We have had such a hard time from both families as far as costs and planning go. My fiance finally decided that we could do a destination wedding...my first idea ;)
I have been looking on different sites...I found this one, The El Dorado Royale, but when I showed my mother this resort she told me to check how old the building was. I've had a hard time trying to figure out if this place is legit, or what I should do now.
We are looking for an all inclusive destination wedding resort. We will probably be having about 20-30 max. family members there. However, we decided that we were going to pay for our flights/etc. by ourselves.
The El Dorado Royale was in a all inclusive destination wedding package for about $3,700. However, I have found a horrible review on it...so if anyone could give their input or help that would be great :)

Hi Brittney,

Congrats on your engagement! My wife takes credit for all the good ideas too! She was right on a lot of our Destination Wedding plans though - I have to admit (although I don't tell her).

The El Dorado Royale is definitely legit, we do a lot of weddings there. When you saw $3,700 for a wedding package, what does that include? That seems pretty pricey.

This website shows all inclusive destination wedding packages. The El Dorado Royale price(with the room upgrade) includes the round trip flight, 7 night stay, all food/drinks, entertainment, and free wedding/honeymoon package :)

The reviewer for the hotel said that they had horrible service and their water wasn't working half the time/as well as heater. They asked for help about this and no one had helped them out. They also had bad concierge service too...

Hi Brittney,

I always recommend that couples take reviews with a "grain of salt". Everybody travels differently, so someone may think that the food was horrible, and someone else thinks the same food was great. It's possible for anybody to get stuck in a bad room at just about any hotel. The most important thing to do when planning a DW is to work with a planner that has the experience and power to fix things like this when they happen. It's unfortunate, but it's human nature, hotels are more likely to take care of issues if they know that your planner sends them a ton of business per year, versus just a single traveler. This is especially the case when someone purchases a package that may seem too good to be true on-line. As the old saying says..."if it looks too good to be true...it probably is!"

We have just started planning our Nov 2009 wedding at the El Dorado Royale. It's hard to make the wedding location choice having never been there. I would love feedback on the pros/cons of the beach location vs the gazebo. Thanks much.

Hi Laurie,

I personally haven't been to that resort, but I can give some advice on gazebos vs. beaches in general. I had my DW last year, and we were going back and forth on the same issue at our resort. We ended up chosing the gazebo, and I was glad we did. First off, it's tough walking in sand and I grossly underestimated how hot I was under the sun. The gazebo gave some great shade, which we really needed. We then went out on the beach to take some photos, so we got those without having to have the sun beating down on us during the whole ceremony.

My fiance and I are in the midst of planning our destination wedding and I am a wreck. We've narrowed it down to the Mayan Riviera but have no idea which resort to choose. We are interested in an all-inclusive but there are so many to choose from! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My friend and her family stayed at the El Dorado Royale for a family vacation over Christmas last year and had a wonderful experience. They did not stay in the little huts but said if they went back again they definitely would next time. Hope this helps!

Hi,

My fiance and I are planning our wedding at the El Dorado Royale as well. I am very nervous to have my wedding at a place I have never been too. I have heard nothing but amazing things about this resort. Any advice as far as picking the right package or anything that could help planning would be great. :)
